It’s been exactly a year since Isha Talwar made her tinsel town entry with the hit movie, Thattathin Marayathu. In the meantime, the actress also managed to make an entry in Kollywood and Tollywood as well. Now, she is back in M-Town and will share screen space with none other than superstar
Mammootty, in an intensely romantic movie,
Balyakalasakhi. The actress speaks about her journey so far, Bollywood debut and why age is no bar when it comes to romancing Mammootty.
It’s just a year since your debut and you have already become a sought-after actress. I have been lucky after
Thattathin Marayathu, which gave me a good break. I also made my Tollywood and Kollywood debuts soon after that. Now I am doing two movies in Malayalam —
Balyakalasakhi and
Red. It’s been a good journey so far. Six movies in three industries in a year is more than I could have asked for.
In Balyakalasakhi, you will once again play a Muslim girl. Don’t you fear getting typecast?Balyakalasakhi is the adaptation of renowned writer Vaikom Muhammad Basheer’s novel by the same name. I have just started reading it, and I can say for sure that Aisha and Suhra are entirely different characters. Moreover, after
Thattathin Marayathu, I did a variety of roles. So it doesn’t bother me.
You will be romancing a senior actor like Mammootty in the film. Don’t you think there is too much of an age difference? To be in the same frame with a legend like Mammootty is indeed a great opportunity. For a newcomer like me, to be part of a superstar project is a dream come true. Also, I don’t think age difference matters here. I’m sure the director will do justice to both our characters. I am really excited to be part of it and I’m looking forward to the shoot. But I know I will have to work really hard for the role.
After Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu, are you eyeing Kannada? Unfortunately, I haven’t received any offers from Kannada yet. But it is on my wish list.
Are you comfortable with South Indian languages? Since I’m a Mumbaikar, I used to feel paranoid about acting in other film industries because of the language barrier. Not anymore, though. Besides, regional cinema, especially the Malayalam film industry, is currently producing some of the best movies as people are more open to experimenting with new ideas. I would love to continue my association with Mollywood.
Tell us about your Bollywood debut? It will happen soon, is all I can tell you. There is something in the pipeline and it will be announced in September. But the shoot will start only next year.
So, what’s next? Apart from
Balyakalasakhi, I’m also doing
Red, which will see me in a special appearance opposite Fahadh Faasil. I have been signed up for a Tamil and Telugu movie as well.
